Safeguarding

Policy statement

“The support and protection of children cannot be achieved by a single agency … every service has to play its part. All staff must have placed upon them the clear expectation that their primary responsibility is to the child and his or her family.” (Lord Laming in the Victoria Climbié Inquiry Report, Paragraphs 17.92 and 17.93)

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility, however, staff working within the Nursery are not responsible for making a diagnosis of child abuse and neglect; rather to share concerns appropriately and refer onto the relevant agency responsible for carrying out an assessment.

The welfare of all the children in our group is of paramount importance.

We recognise that child abuse occurs in all cultures, religions and social classes.

Inclusion and diversity

Policy statement

A Jewish ethos permeates all levels of the school’s activities, both the structured and hidden curriculum. We value the unique qualities of each individual, child and adult alike. We will ensure that our service is fully inclusive in meeting the needs of all children, particularly those that arise from their ethnic heritage, social and economic background, gender, ability or disability. Our setting is committed to anti-discriminatory practice to promote equality of opportunity and valuing diversity for all children and families.

Discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, race, religion or belief, marriage or civil partnership, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or maternity, ethnic or national origin, or political belief has no place within our nursery.

SEND Policy

Policy statement

We are committed to the inclusion of all children. All children have the right to be cared for and educated to develop to their full potential alongside their peers through positive experiences, to enable them to share opportunities and experiences and develop and learn from each other. We provide a positive and welcoming environment where children are supported according to their individual needs and we work hard to ensure no children are discriminated against or put at a disadvantage as a consequence of their needs. Each child’s needs are unique, therefore any attempt to categorise children is inappropriate.

Achieving positive behaviour

Policy Statement

Our setting believes that children flourish best when their personal, social and emotional needs are met and where there are clear and developmentally appropriate expectations for their behaviour.

Children need to learn to consider the views and feelings, needs and rights, of others and the impact that their behaviour has on people, places and objects. This is a developmental task that requires support, encouragement, teaching and setting the correct example. The principles that underpin how we achieve positive and considerate behaviour exist within the programme for promoting personal, social and emotional development

Making a complaint

Policy statement

Our setting believes that children and parents are entitled to expect courtesy and prompt, careful attention to their needs and wishes. We welcome suggestions on how to improve our setting and will give prompt and serious attention to any concerns about the running of the setting. We anticipate that most concerns will be resolved quickly by an informal approach to the appropriate member of staff. If this does not achieve the desired result, we have a set of procedures for dealing with concerns. We aim to bring all concerns about the running of our setting to a satisfactory conclusion for all of the parties involved.
